Movie Synopsis:
This is Pop, a Netflix documentary series of 8 episodes, examines pop music since the 1950s. The first episode, “The Boyz II Men Effect,” follows the vocal combo’s rise to fame in the 1990s and examines their status as a Black group dominating the extremely mainstream Hot 100 (i.e., very white).
The eight episodes cover everything from the renowned Brill Building sound to the alchemy of public performance at music festivals, as well as brit-pop and Swedish pop.
